Bob

As a creative professional, I am a problem solver.

I believe that the design process begins by correctly identifying, then isolating the “problem”. Through research and collaboration, a working idea is crafted into a strong concept. The solution is achieved through the smartest, most beautifully possible execution.

Over the past 13 years, my experience as a print production technician, retoucher, musician, designer and art director has equipped me with a versatile skillset and an unwavering attention to detail and execution. I have worked for individuals, small design and motion shops, as well as large advertising agencies and approach each project with utmost care and dedication.

In 2006, I incorporated as BobCreative, Inc. and have since worked as an independent consultant. Most recently, I have been active within the interactive sector, developing brand campaigns across digital channels. I especially enjoy working with new and emerging enterprises to design and help position their company identity. Click if you would like a hardcopy of this résumé.

FAQ.

What is BobCreative, Inc.?

BobCreative, Inc. is my corporation that I formed when I became a full-time independent consultant in 2006. Currently, it’s just me, but I can assemble a team to satisfy larger projects.

Are you hiring?

No. But I have assembled teams in the past, and I often refer other creatives. That said, please feel free to send me your site or resumé. If you are a young creative just starting out, I am more than happy to take a look at your work and offer feedback, should you want it. I was fortunate enough to have had people review my work and provide feedback when I was starting out, and I strongly believe in continuing that practice for others.

How can I contact you?

Please send me an email to: bob@bobcreative.com. Or, I can be reached at 917 685 0367. Any physical mail correspondence can be sent to:

Where are you located?

I am located on the Lower East Side of New York City, and can work on or off site.

Would you relocate?

Permanently, no. But I would consider a temporary assignment outside of NYC.

Do you ever work as an independent contractor?

I currently do work as an independent contractor (freelancer). I have taken very short projects, as well as longer “permalance” assignments. Although I enjoy freelance work, I would consider a full time postion. Please feel free to inquire.

How do you charge/what is your fee?

I charge an hourly rate that is on-par with the industry standard rates for an ACD with 15+ years of experience. Please contact me to discuss your project and I can provide a more specific rate to you. I strongly favor charging hourly rather than by a day rate or a project lump sum. In my experience, this practice has proven to benefit both parties most fairly. I believe that you should only pay for my time, while I am working for you. I am very vigilant about logging exact hours and invoicing accordingly (i.e., you won’t find me disappearing for 2-hour lunches on your dime).

Can I submit a project to you for a quote?

Of course! Please email me a description of your project, or call me and I will get back to you as soon as possible — usually within 24 hours.

Typically, how long might my project take?

It depends, but I always provide a time estimate as well as a cost estimate with any quote I submit. I can itemize time and cost, if you require. Generally, I usually cite logo design as a ruler for estimating time. I believe that a first round of logo design typically takes about 5 business days: 3 solid days of exploratory design (which could yield anywhere between 40-60 decent logos) and 2 days of refinement (distilling 40-60 decent logos into about 4-6 great logos).

Are you interested in collaborating with or submitting work to any designer-like endeavors?

Sure, I love to contribute to the design community, and am constantly looking at what my peers are up to. Please contact me regarding what you have in mind.

Do you do non-for-profit work?

I would most certainly consider non-for-profit work, as it is something I am seeking to do more of. Please contact me with some information about your organization, and what you are looking for.

I’m looking for a good (fill in the blank). Can you refer anyone to me?

I have many extremely talented friends and colleagues that work in a variety of creative disciplines. I frequently refer other creatives, especially if I feel that I can’t suit your needs. For example, I have worked in the Motion Graphics sector as a designer/art director, but I don’t actually animate, so I would refer you to an animator (or assemble a team for you) should you need some AfterEffects work to put storyboards in motion.

What programs do you use?

I use Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. For sound design, I use Ableton Live.

What other stuff are you into?

I have a music project that I work on with musician Brian Kelly, called Through A Rebel Heart of which I am extremely proud. I used to DJ, and although retired, I still collect music on vinyl, especially dubstep, ambient, trip-hop and jazz. I also like bicycles, craft beer, and (taking or posing for) embarrassing pictures.

Cubs or White Sox?

Although I grew up on the far Northwest Side of Chicago, I was born in Bridgeport. As far as I am concerned Chicago has only one baseball team, and they play on the South Side.
